Tarkmann, Andreas N.

Andreas N. Tarkmann, born in Hanover in 1956, is one of the most creative arrangers of instrumental and vocal music and a versatile composer. As an arranger, Tarkmann has written numerous wind versions and ‘Harmoniemusiken’ for international ensembles and radio stations. Many of Tarkmann’s arrangements are available on CD, including productions with Placido Domingo, Jonas Kaufmann, Anna Netrebko, Albrecht Mayer and James Galway.

Tarkmann’s oeuvre as a composer ranges from works for family concerts – such as ‘The Princess and the Pea’ and ‘The Dung Beetle’, inspired by the tales of Hans Christian Andersen – to youth operas such as ‘La belle au bois dormant’ and ‘Räuber Hotzenplotz’. He has also set cabaret texts to music, performed by renowned chansonniers.

As a professor of instrumentation / arrangement and instrumentology, Andreas N. Tarkmann taught at the Mannheim University of Music and at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Tübingen.

In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious ECHO Klassik prize for his recording of ‘Na warte, sagte Schwarte’ and ‘Die verlorene Melodie’, which earned the distinction of ‘Klassik für Kinder’ (Classical Music for Children).
